Satour & Price seeking legal advice in Code of Conduct saga

p2626 ASTC Satour SM

All Code of Conduct complaints against Councillor Catherine Satour have been dismissed and she wants the complainants "held to account". She has not named them, but Jacinta Price, who last night resigned as councillor, appears to confirm they are associated with her. Ms Price is a candidate in the upcoming federal election.  KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Council ‘in the way’ of Alice development: Chief Minister

2551 Michael Gunner SM

He blames the council particularly for the blockage on the proposed national Aboriginal art gallery, to the ire of Councillor Eli Melky. KIERAN FINNANE reports.

UPDATE 2.50pm: Request to Gunner: Name the 29 traditional owners. Were they all from the same family?

Cr Melky alleges budget irregularity

p2343-Eli-Melky SM

Nothing if not persistent, Councillor Eli Melky says he will take his concerns over an alleged council budget irregularity to the Minister. KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Ratepayer, do you want your money back?

p2362-council-ryan-copy-sm

In a surprise turnaround a majority of councillors have supported Cr Eli Melky's motion. It suggests a shift in the balance of power on council. KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Council: one third of budget still unspent

p2440 ASTC Scott Allen SM

Council’s financial performance came under close scrutiny during last night's meeting, principally by Councillor Eli Melky. KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Cr Melky's lonely triumph

p2118-Melky-alone

The Town Council’s Finance Committee appeared to meet entirely in open session last night. Not only were the full monthly accounts included in the papers, as they have been for some months now; there were also open officer reports and nil confidential reports. The landmark event may well have gone unnoticed except for the congratulatory remarks of Councillor Eli Melky. He directed them to the CEO and Director of Finance as well as to his fellow elected members. But nobody took the opportunity to congratulate him where the credit was perhaps most due. Why, you might wonder? KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Rift deepens between Melky and the rest

With her election as Deputy Mayor last night not yet four months in the job, Councillor Kylie Bonanni's honeymoon continued alongside the excruciating spectacle of Cr Eli Melky's increasing and mostly self-driven isolation. KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Council applying a gag or streamlining?

New meeting procedure to avoid what is deemed unnecessary discussion had Councillor Eli Melky losing his cool at last night’s committee meetings. The procedure looks neutral enough but Cr Melky, whose comments are quite often verbose and pedantic, obviously feels targeted by it. KIERAN FINNANE reports.

Cr Melky continues campaign for greater transparency

It won’t be for want of trying if Councillor Eli Melky fails to bring more meaningful discussion of council’s finances into the open. Council’s Director of Finance Paul Della had made an effort to have something for this month’s committee meeting to consider in open, two reports in fact, one requiring no action, the other merely for formal endorsement. Cr Melky was not to be bought off so easily. KIERAN FINNANE reports.
