From 1953-59 Wally McArthur played a total of 165 games for English league clubs Rochdale, Blackpool Borough, Salford and Workington Town. He was named in the Aboriginal Australian rugby league team of the century in 2008. He ran competitively and in 1957 was the North England sprint champion, winning both the 100 and 220 yard titles. He also won the 100-yard sprint in the 1957 Highland Games.
