LETTER: Scales of justice tipped in favour of Native Title claimants

In a decision that turns the 16-year-old native title dispute resolution system on its head, landowners will soon be left high and dry – forced to fund their own representation in native title disputes, while claimants will continue to be funded by taxpayers, writes Warren Truss, of

The Nationals.

NT statehood soon? I don’t think so.

Opinion polls show that Territorians are very strongly in favour of
Statehood for the Territory. The opinion polls conducted by the NT
Statehood Committee also show that Territorians are (by small
majorities) against statehood if we do not have the same rights as other
States. Unfortunately, whatever the results of the negotiations
between the Territory and the Commonwealth, we will never be equal to
the other States. COMMENT by ROLF GERRITSEN. Photo: pushing for statehood online.
