Jak was one of the best parliamentarians in the NT in the last 30 years.
His integrity was unquestioned, and dealing with him as director of the NLC, and as a minister was a pleasure.
He was always proud of his connection to Alice, and the Centre, and did not ignore us.
Something the present Government could learn from.

One of the best speeches I ever heard was delivered by John Ah Kit for the “Reconciling Australia” series broadcast by ABC National Radio on April 11, 1995.
I still have the cassette tape.
He was the executive director of the Jawoyn Association at the time but won a by-election for the seat of Arnhem several months later.
Whenever we met John always had a broad smile of recognition and kind and sensible words to say.
He must have had thousands of friends.
I’m sure that he’ll be greatly missed by them all. Vale John. An outstanding man.
Jak must be rated among “greatest Territorians ever”. A lovely, articulate man, always reasonable, always wise. Condolences to the extensive family. Old Buffaloes never die …
John Ah Kit. At the rugby league Grand Final between Wests and RSL (“Razzles”) at Anzac Hill Oval. Wests won a hard fought game.
After the game at the celebration hangi barbecue, Johnny regaled us with “the joys of engaging in warrior combat”.
Had everyone laughing and made everyone feel proud to have been on the playing field – both teams. Rest in Peace, Johnny.
