Feds announce road funding

17 November 2014

The Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery and Financial Assistance Grants funding announced today will pay $7,399,740 to the Lingiari electorate.

This includes for the Alice Springs Town Council $432,827, Barkly Regional Council $503,760, Central Desert Regional Council $439,573, Macdonnell Regional Council $712,246 and Roads Trust $356,966.

In addition, under the R2R funding – for local road and street construction and upgrades – just two have lodged their paperwork thus far, including the Department of Transport $2,971,328.

Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss says the funding comes with no strings attached – meaning councils are free to spend the money on local priorities.

  1. Last week I was in Coober Pedy and the local paper (bought while re-fuelling) stated that the Feds and SA were putting $18.5m into roads in the APY lands. I wonder if the Feds put more into that than they have to Lingiari, virtually the whole of the Northern Territory?

  2. Will these be public roads or private restricted roads ?
IF they are private restricted roads what % contribution are the private landowners making?
