Palm Valley suffers as buffel intrudes

While South Australia has been fighting a war against buffel for decades, and last year declared the grass to be a weed, in the NT the feral plant has been allowed to spread practically unchecked. There is now a major infestation of Palm Valley, one of The Centre's prime social and economic assets. ERWIN CHLANDA reports.

 

Palm Valley gas flowing, but less of it

 

Natural gas production will continue in the Palm Valley field 145 kilometres west of Alice Springs under an agreement between Magellan and Santos.

Magellan has a contract with Santos for the supply of 22 Bcf (billion cubic feet) over 15 years.
This follows a swap last year which saw Santos becoming sole owner of the Mereenie oil and gas field west of Palm Valley, and Magellan of the Palm Valley field. ERWIN CHLANDA reports. Palm Valley gas royalties will resume

Royalties have temporarily stopped flowing to the NT Government and Arrernte traditional owners for gas from the Palm Valley fields west of Alice Springs, in the wake of reduced production. ERWIN CHLANDA reports.
