Time to sleep, little ones – Arrernte way

It seems likely that all peoples have in common the need to help young children go to sleep at night and it is charming to experience this by the fireside with Arrernte story-tellers  in ICTV'S series, Our Bedtime Stories, launched locally last night, writes KIERAN FINNANE.

It means ‘When are you coming?’ in Mparntwe's first language, Arrernte. And the place to go is the Apmere angkentye-kenhe (Place for language) in the Yellow House behind Flynn Church.

The centre of town will be humming with the sound of its first language, when Apmere angkentye-kenhe kicks off for its second season next week.

The Pitjantjatjara word for woman, 'kungka', has become well known, but Pitjantjatjara is not the language of this place, Arrernte is, and  ‘arelhe’ is the Arrernte word for woman. KIERAN FINNANE reports.
