LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Sir – The CLP government consistently and resoundingly criminalises and punishes the dysfunction that arises from their sabotaging of social policy and throwing responsibility for not meeting the expectations of an affluent society onto those least equipped or supported to achieve them.
Imprisoning messed up Indigenous kids is bad policy and a waste of government resources. It doesn’t diminish the causes and it leads to a culture of abuse when it becomes a default response.
A government that prioritises policing and incarceration in response to psychological and social dysfunction creates more opportunities for brutality than for change, compassion or community.
