Acting Superintendent Neil Hayes said that the three males aged 16 escaped from the centre at just before 11pm last night.

“A guard was assaulted and injured, and keys were taken before the group escaped the facility.

“The offenders are Anton Wilson (above, left), Bennett Briscoe and Liam Ryan (above, right).

“Police are currently patrolling the area and have deployed extra units to recapture the escapees,” says Supt Hayes.

“The public are warned not approach these youths. Instead, if anyone has any information regarding their whereabouts, please contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

A spokesman for the Department of Correctional Services says the youths are alleged to have assaulted a Youth Justice Officer before scaling the detention centre’s perimeter fence and escaping on foot at about 11pm.

The injured officer was taken to the Alice Springs hospital where he remains receiving treatment for facial injuries.

UPDATE:

Police say Anton Wilson and Liam Ryan were apprehended by police in a home in Braitling on Friday evening.

They have been charged with stealing, escape lawful custody, aggravated assault and criminal damage. They will appear in Alice Springs magistrates court.

Enquiries are continuing into the location of Bennett Briscoe.

  1. I understand Ken Middlebrook was the third-choice goalkeeper for the Samoan soccer team beaten 31-0 by Australia a few years back. Ken, mate, you have to take the turnstiles off the gates at the jails.

  2. The NT now has the nation’s highest imprisonment rate / highest expenditure per capita on prisons, highest recidivism and now the highest rate of escape.
