Sir – Well bred lines of Hereford cattle from the Red Centre boasting weight-for-age and in fresh to forward condition will be offered at the Alice Springs annual show steer and weaner sale.

The anticipated yarding of over 3000 head will be held at the Bohning Yards, Roe Creek, on July 2 from 1pm.

The majority of the yarding is Hereford or Hereford cross cattle, ranging from milk to four tooth.

Among the feature lines will be more than 700 Poll Hereford and black baldy mixed sex weaners from Lucy Creek Station, and 12 decks of Poll Hereford steers and heifers, milk to four tooth, from Mt Skinner Station.

All cattle will present in fresh to forward condition despite the tough season, well with weights of 250kg plus.

We have had strong inquiry from backgrounders and processors from Western Australia, South Australia, NSW and Queensland.

Not having had a sale for a while we have nothing to quote on but we are expecting this sale to be well supported.

It represents an opportunity to buy good lines of one mark calves at a time when cattle are in short supply.

There will be grown steers with weight along with lighter cattle for buyers wanting to load decks of 40 plus.

A best presented pen of steers will be judged prior to the sale.

Centralian Beef Breeders Association members have organised pens of commercial cattle, a carcass competition, junior handling classes and a bull sale on July 2-4.
