Oz Day: New citizens, awards for achievements

Sir – This Australia Day the Alice Springs Town Council will confer 72 new citizenships and announce the winners of the 2015 Centralian Awards at a civic ceremony.
 
There is no greater way to celebrate Australia Day than welcoming new citizens to our community, whilst also celebrating the achievements of locals through the Centralian Awards.
 
The 2015 Centralian Awards winners are:-
• Centralian Citizen of the Year – Michele Castagna (Sponsored by Apex).
• Young Centralian Citizen of the Year – Makhosini Khumalo  (Sponsored by Lions).
• Volunteer of the Year – Lex Fitchett.
• Event of the Year –  Asbuild Colour Smash.
 
The new citizens are from countries including Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, India, Philippines, Indonesia, UK, New Zealand, USA, South Korea, Kuwait, Wales, Sudan, Kenya, Fiji, Myanmar, China, Pakistan, Denmark, Thailand, Zimbabwe and Italy.
 
Following the civic ceremony, the Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre will be hosting a ‘Triple J’s Hottest 100’ party.
 
This free family friendly event starts at 9am and has face painting, jumping castle, inflatable pool toys and a sausage sizzle.
