Anna Miers, from the Centralian Senior College, is the Territory’s top NTCET student scoring an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99.9.
St Philip’s College student Ella Syme came equal sixth in the NT with an ATAR of 99. Four St Philip’s students (pictured) are in the top 20.
A+ Merit Awards went to Ella Syme for English Studies and Modern History, Ainsleigh Bilato, Billie Newton and Margo Sullivan for Mathematical Applications and Bonny Scott for Communication Products. 18 students received an ATAR of 90 and above and 26 students achieved an ATAR of 85 and above.
“It is timely to recognise the support and guidance provided by student’s families, teachers and friends during the demanding senior secondary years,” Education Minister Robyn Lambley said.
In 2014, 1315 students completed the NTCET, an increase of 60 students compared to 2013, the greatest number of certificate completions since its inception.
Ms Lambley says the Top 20 results were determined from the university aggregate scores of 20 students from five schools – Casuarina Senior College (7), Darwin High School (6), St Philip’s College (4), Centralian Senior College (2), and The Essington School (1).
This year, 21 students achieved the top two per cent in Stage 2 subjects and were awarded 30 A+ merit awards.
My understanding is that Centralian Secondary College has three students in the top twenty, including Anna in the top spot and Sarah Moore in sixth. Four St Phillips students also in the top 20, headed by Emma Syme (ninth). Congratulations to all these students on their excellent achievement. A big pat on the back to their teachers as well, always good to see kids fulfil their potential.
Just as important though is how the rest of the students went, not everyone can be in the top bracket.
I’ll be particularly interested to see if Centralian has maintained its excellent track record in helping indigenous students complete their NTCE.
I remember the days when very few got their Year 12 certificate, and Centralian Secondary College has worked hard to change this, with a good deal of success.
Hi All
Centralian Senior College has three students in the Top 20.
Anna Miers Number 1; Sarah Moore Number 5 and Sylva Landers Number 14. The school has had a good year with 20% of all student ATARS over 80 and 15% of all grades were an A.
Anna received three Merit awards, English Studies, Legal Studies and Biology with Sylva gaining a Merit for English Studies. I wish to congratulate all students and staff for the efforts and successes.
Merry Christmas
Eddie
And congratulations also to Centralian Senior College student, Sarah Moore, for obtaining the 5th highest ATAR in the Northern Territory, with a score of 99.25! Well done Sarah!
